The Klaipeda Region Day is commemorated since military action 1923 when the region of Klaipeda was attached to Lithuania. Since 1920 Klaipeda officially belonged to France. Lithuanian government through the Lithuanian riflemen union and the General Lithuania Minor’s rescue committee accomplished the military attachment of Klaipeda to Lithuania, known as “Klaipeda Revolt”. It is considered a revolt since soldiers and members of a union staged a rebellion of residents and Klaipeda region volunteers against the local government. In order to honor the members of a revolt who have been killed each year there are various events organized in Klaipeda.
