The Freedom Fighters’ Day is commemorated since the 13th of January 1991 when there was a massive peaceful resistance against the Soviet Union government’s attempt to occupy the Vilnius television tower, the building of the radio and television committee, Parliament and other significant buildings. Even though some of the objects were occupied, the operation aims (to occupy the Parliament and provoke strife) weren’t achieved. During this day Lithuanian flag is raised on all the buildings of country institutions, companies and organizations.
