On the 14th of June the Day of mourning and hope is commemorated all over the Lithuania. During this day, in 1941 the Soviet Union started mass deportations to Siberia. Most people were exiled to the camps of GULAG. Many exiles died during the journey since they were deported in cargo wagons. Also many died in camps. In order to honour Lithuania’s citizens who worked difficult physical jobs and experienced horrible living conditions in Siberia the flag of Lithuania is raised with a black ribbon on all the buildings. There are also concerts, commemorations and special programs organized.
