No 2. To the South: the three capitals
Explore the south of Lithuania, the ethnographic area of Dzūkija. This route takes in the country’s three capitals: Vilnius – the capital of Lithuania, Kaunas – the provisional capital of Lithuania between the 1st and 2nd World Wars, and Trakai – the historical capital of Lithuania.
Trakai is the shining glory of the route with its medieval castle – the seat of the ruler of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. This uniquely positioned red brick castle was built on an island in the middle of one of the country’s most scenic lakes. It is no wonder that it is considered one of the most beautiful medieval castles in Europe.
You will be able to stop over in the cities or opt for a few days of downtime in a resort town with 200-year old spa treatment traditions.
